About us

American Society of Appraisers (ASA) is the oldest multidisciplinary appraisal nonprofit organization established in 1952 in the United States. ASA become an effective professional affiliation of appraisers of all disciplines, working cooperatively to elevate the standards of the appraisal profession. ASA provides its members the most solid grounding in the appraisal principles that underlie all classes of property: real, personal, tangible and intangible.

ASA is a global coverage organization active in Northern America (USA, Canada, Maxico), Europe, China, Japan and Australia.

History

The American Society of Technical Appraisers (ASTA) and the Technical Valuation Society (TVS), organized in 1936 and 1939 respectively, were consolidated; thus was created the American Society of Appraisers (ASA).

ASA is a nonprofit organization of individuals that was incorporated in the state of Delaware in 1952 to establish an effective professional affiliation of appraisers of all disciplines, working cooperatively to elevate the standards of the appraisal profession.

The EU Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers (“ASA EU chapter”) has been established in 2015 as independent chapter of ASA. The EU Chapter is dedicated to meeting the valuation needs in European region through education and community service. Headquarters is located in Prague, the Czech Republic.

Education

ASA designation may be obtained only after completion of rigorous course of training and a challenging evaluation process. ASA appraisers are re-accredited every five years.

ASA appraisers must comply with the Principles of Appraisal Practice and Code of Ethics established by the American Society of Appraisers.

Credibility

ASA accreditation enhances credibility in litigation proceedings.

Jan Marek
Chapter president

Jan Marek a partner leading Deloitte’s valuation and financial modelling team in Central Europe. He specialises in valuation and financial modelling for transaction and litigation purposes. He serves as a member of the Business Valuation Standard Board at International Valuation Standards Council. He is also the president of the European Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers and a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Economic Studies at the Charles University in Prague.

Jan has a master’s degree from the Institute of Economic Studies at Charles University. He holds the professional certifications of Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Bob Cernousek
Chapter secretary

Bob is a manager in PricewaterhouseCoopers Valuation team. He specialises in business and assets valuations inc. real-estate for various purposes e.g. transactions, litigation or reporting purposes. He has more than 9 years of experience in providing financial advisory services to clients across multiple industry sectors. In the past Bob has also acted as a Finance Strategy Manager for CR & SR in Tesco and Senior Associate at Deloitte.Bob is a manager in PricewaterhouseCoopers Valuation team. He specialises in business and assets valuations inc. real-estate for various purposes e.g. transactions, litigation or reporting purposes. He has more than 9 years of experience in providing financial advisory services to clients across multiple industry sectors. In the past Bob has also acted as a Finance Strategy Manager for CR & SR in Tesco and Senior Associate at Deloitte.

Bob graduated in Finance at Banska University in Ostrava.

He is candidate for Accreditation Member (AM) certification of American Society of Appraisers.

Lukas Brych
Chapter Treasurer

Lukas is an assistant director in Deloitte Valuation and Financial Modelling team. He specializes in business and assets valuations for various purposes as well as financial modelling for decision support. Lukas also participated in a number of projects of design and implementation of value-based management systems. He has more than sixteen years of experience in providing financial advisory services to clients across multiple industry sectors.

Lukas graduated in Finance at University of Economics in Prague.

He is Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
